Membership Manager

Hello! I’m Sereena Henderson, membership manager for The 19th. With eight years in nonprofit news, I’m passionate about mission-driven journalism that uplifts underserved and underrepresented communities. A Mississippi native, I am a graduate of The University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media. (Hotty Toddy, y’all!) I’m proud to have played a key role in the growth of innovative, digital news startups.

I started my career in 2016 at Mississippi Today, where I was the newsroom’s first social media manager, also producing newsletters and reporting on the state’s rich and vibrant culture. In 2020, I moved to Austin, Texas, to help launch The 19th. It’s been so fulfilling to grow and evolve along with this organization. I have been a part of The 19th’s product and audience teams, and, in 2023, my work earned me a spot in the inaugural cohort of the News Product Management Certification.

I’m thankful to bring my experience in reporting, audience engagement and product thinking into my current role on our development team. I will forever be a storyteller at heart. Storytelling is the underlying magic in my work to articulate The 19th’s mission and to connect with supporters, like you!
