Audience Engagement Editor (She/Her)

I’m Julie Bogen, one of The 19th’s audience engagement editors, and I co-manage the audience team. We run The 19th’s social media accounts, newsletters and parts of the website. My work focuses on 19th events, The Amendment podcast, membership, our audience fellowship track and more. I’ve been with The 19th since July of 2022.

If I write — when I write — I tend to focus on the military, motherhood, politics and pop culture. I’ve got a soft spot for general assignment reporting, love a well-placed em dash, and never miss an episode of SNL. I’m also a military spouse (go, Navy!) and mom of two little kids.

I have 10 years of experience in newsroom audience work between my time here at The 19th and other roles at Refinery29, Vox and The Atlantic, and am a graduate of Poynter’s 2024 Leadership Academy for Women in Media. I currently live in San Diego, California — at least, until the military says it’s time for somewhere new.

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
