Audience Editor, News (She/Her)

Hey! I’m Annelise McGough, audience editor of news here at The 19th. That basically means I work with reporters, editors and the audience team to help make story decisions that center the needs of you, our reader. Have you seen a story from us on Instagram? I helped with that. Do you recognize my name from our daily newsletter? I produce it. I co-manage a team of three producers who are the best in the biz and make me laugh every day.

I joined our newsroom back in June of 2020, right before The 19th officially launched. Before starting here, I was the newsletter editor at Grist and before that I worked at Fast Company. As I write this, I’m realizing I’ve now been in journalism for almost a decade. Time flies when you’re covering news that literally never-ever-not-even-on-the-weekend stops!

You should email me and tell me what you think of our work. What should we be writing about? Where do you spend your time reading the news? What’s your dog’s name? I want to hear all of it.

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
