Reporting Fellow

I’m Alexis Wray, one of The 19th’s reporting fellows. Prior to joining The 19th, I wrote about everything from student loan debt and higher education to social movements in Appalachia for Scalawag Magazine, The Appalachian Voice, The Atlanta Voice and Reckon News.

At The 19th, I work closely with our editorial team by reporting and shining a light on the intersections of race, gender and politics. During my fellowship year, I hope to uplift narratives that create change, foster societal advancement and meet readers like you where you are.

I’m a North Carolina A&T State University alumna (AGGIE PRIDE) where I earned a bachelor’s in journalism and mass communications, and a graduate of Syracuse University with a Master of Science in communication and journalism innovation. If I’m not writing stories or taking a hike through the Appalachian Mountains, I am feeding college students with my nonprofit MarketBoxx.

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
