Hey there, I’m Vanessa! I’m the product designer at The 19th, which means I design the way our journalism appears in places like the newsletters in your inbox, on apps like Apple News, and via this website you’re reading right now.
My introduction to design was through journalism, nurtured by the belief that all elements of a story — writing, photography, design — should be deeply intertwined. I still love to dabble in each discipline, so during the workweek, you might find me drafting button copy or making Figma mockups, and on the weekend, taking on freelance photography gigs across the city of Boston.
Before The 19th, I worked at the Washington Post and Upstatement where I helped teams find new ways of sharing stories and connecting with their audiences and studied design at Northeastern University. My work has been recognized by the Society for News Design, Communication Arts and the Society for Publication Design.
My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
