Vice President (she/her)

I’m LaSharah S. Bunting, vice president at The 19th. I’ve been a journalist and media executive for more than two decades, and I lead the organization’s financial sustainability and serve as a strategic partner to our CEO.

Before joining The 19th, I was CEO and executive director of the Online News Association. My previous roles include vice president and executive editor at Simon & Schuster and director/Journalism at Knight Foundation. I spent 13 years at The New York Times, where my roles ranged from leading digital transformation in the newsroom to overseeing breaking news and multimedia on the National desk. I began my career as an editor at The Dallas Morning News.

I have devoted my career to improving racial and gender representation in media. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Lenfest Institute, Outlier Media, Open Campus and Dow Jones News Fund. I am also a mentor in the Emma Bowen Foundation’s career activation program.

I am a proud Nebraska native and graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I studied journalism and political science. Go Huskers!

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
