As we scale up The 19th’s already extraordinary newsroom, we’re building out our first-ever breaking news team — with three reporters who will find the gender lens on the biggest stories of the day and spin them forward for our audiences.
Candice Norwood comes to us from the PBS NewsHour, where she covered the impeachments of former President Donald Trump, the 2020 presidential campaign, the pandemic and police reform efforts in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder. Previously she was a staff writer for Governing magazine, a freelancer for Bloomberg News’ White House team and a web producer for Politico.
Orion Rummler spent the last two-and-a-half years at Axios, where he expanded LGBTQ+ coverage and anchored live news on the January 6 Capitol attack, the coronavirus, the 2020 election and Trump’s first impeachment trial. He also researched “Axios on HBO” stories on Trump and regularly contributed to newsletters including AM/PM, Vitals, and Generate. His work was cited in the second House Judiciary Committee impeachment report.
And Jennifer Gerson is a contributing writer at publications including Cosmopolitan, The New York Times, The Guardian, Yahoo, Teen Vogue, Glamour, Marie Claire, InStyle, Allure, NBC News and more. A two-time Ellie Award nominee and recipient of a Maggie Award for her coverage of reproductive and sexual health, Jennifer was the founding editor of Jezebel, was the Style editor of RalphLauren.com, and started her career on NBC News’ election decision desk.
Candice and Orion will report from the D.C. area; Jennifer makes her home in Atlanta. All three of them start on June 28. We couldn’t be more excited to add them to the mix — and to feature their incredible journalism across our platforms!
