Senior Director of Events (She/Her)

I’m Faith Smith, The 19th’s senior director of events. I have the pleasure of working closely with the newsroom and our leadership team on our events and other projects like our Amendment podcast that took us through the 2024 election. Our live, in-person events allow us to spend time in community with our audiences, partners and the people at the center of our reporting.

I come to journalism via an untraditional path. After seven years in events and external relations at New America, a think tank in Washington, D.C., I left for Slate Magazine, where I led their events for five years, working closely with their podcast, editorial and business teams. I’ve been with The 19th since 2021 and my greatest passions are to create compelling and informative conversations, and to foster meaningful connections between our journalism and the audiences we serve.

I’ve lived all over the country with roots in Oklahoma, California and Virginia. I was a first-generation college student who attended Tulsa Community College before getting a degree from UCLA. I’m in the D.C. area, and share a noisy home with my husband, two sons, two dogs and two parakeets.

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
